River Cities Ballroom Dance – Saturday, April 27, 2019

Hello Dancers,

The next River Cities dance is Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 7:30-10:30pm at Wayside UMC 3001 Grand Central Ave. Vienna WV 26105. Music by Fifth Street Quartet. Bring your own snacks to share and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy during the dance.

We continue a longtime tradition of formal dress at our dances, with the gentlemen sporting tuxedos or dark suits and the ladies in formal gowns or cocktail dresses.

It’s time to start the membership drive for 2019-2020!

This past season we had 21 couples with paid memberships and the club finances were about breakeven for the season. Please consider renewing your membership and tell your friends; your participation could make the difference in our club’s survival. The yearly membership package is just $225/year per couple and includes all the dances. The single dance price is $60/couple. Bring your checks to this dance so we can start planning for another fun season of dancing!

Turn onto 30^th Street (towards the river)
Church is on the north side of 30^th street and parking lot is on the other side of the street.
About half way down the block is the entrance and lobby that connects to both church and hall.

Big Band Dances – RSVP’s needed for dances to happen

We have been spoiled over the years by the Big Band Dances. They have many musicians that come to play, and many travel from out of town for the event. They will be happy to continue if they know there will be enough dancers to enjoy the evening. So – if you would like to continue to dance to the Big Band, please let them know.

Dear Ballroom Dancers,
> As you probably know, Felice brings in musicians from all over WV, not just Wood County, in order to fill out the Big Band; from Logan, Glenville, Charleston, Clarksburg, Athens OH… We never know if we will have a good turnout, and at least once a season we have a very small group. Because preparation setup is a huge job, we are trying a new idea to help us eliminate the low attendance dances. We ask that you RSVP by email if you will be attending the next dance, to Joyce & Steve when they send out their dance announcement email each month. If you can’t attend the dance, no need to reply. Only if we don’t get enough positive replies, will we cancel that dance and notify you in advance of that dance.

We hope this works well for you and for us! If anyone has ideas to boost attendance, your help would be appreciated.

Jazz In The Village March 29, 2019

The Riverbend Arts Council in Middleport, Ohio is hosting “Jazz In The Village” with the Ohio University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Matt James on Friday, March 29.

Enjoy jazz, swing, and big band music and dance on the spacious wood floor from 7:30 till 10:30 pm. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served during the evening.

Tickets ($15 per adult or $10 per student) are available now at King Ace Hardware in Middleport, Clark’s Jewelry in Pomeroy or from Meigs High School Band members. Although tickets will be available at the door, advance purchase is recommended.

Out of town guests may reserve tickets by sending a check payable to “Riverbend Arts Council” to PO Box 27, Middleport, OH 45760. Your tickets will be held for you at the door.

If purchasing tickets at the door, please plan to pay with cash, as the arts council is unable to accept credit cards.

Don’t miss the Big Band Dances this year at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church Gym.

3329 Broad St (same street as YMCA),park on the lot off 34th street, & enter the gym at the small green sign “Family Life Center.”

All dances will be Saturday evenings, 7:30-10pm.

We have no kitchen or frig use, so please bring your own non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks, (your own plates & cups also).

Our fantastic Doug Hess Big Band will provide the dance music!

Happy Valentine’s Day! You can head to the American Legion Post 15 on Garfield Avenue (Traffic Circle) from 7:00-9:00 PM and dance at their Thursday Night Dances! We invite you to come early and eat with us. The Legion has good food and weekly specials at very reasonable prices.

Join us for socializing and dancing to “Beach” music. Our fabulous DJs will spin our favorite tunes and take requests for yours too.
