50’s Dance Saturday, Jan 16th Ambrose Hall

Dance to that golden era of music with DJ Adam and relive those happy days on one of the area’s larges dance floors!

This is our 3rd annual winter doldrums 50’s dance.  The 50’s dance was a great hit last year – don’t miss it!  There are no Tempo Club or River Cities Dances this month, so be sure to get your dance fix in!

Happy New Year Dancers!

I hope you were able to dance in the New Year! If not, this Friday night January 8th  Saturday January 16th is the first “Dance Night”  will be a 50’s Dance at Ambrose Hall. We are excited to SWING into 2010 with guest instructors for the workshop. Edie and Tim King have graciously agreed to hold a Swing Dance workshop. The workshop will be from 8 – 9 pm, with dance music playing from 9 – 11 pm. We will also play a lot of swing music so we can practice what we just learned.

Here’s a bit about Tim and Edie …

Tim and Edie King of Middleport, Ohio began dancing in 1990, as students of a popular area instructor, Gerald Powell. They have been trained in ballroom, swing, and Latin dances, and have assisted Powell in many of his group beginner classes. Along with dancing for their own enjoyment, they have appeared in numerous talent and variety shows that benefit local organizations and charities. Their teaching emphasis is to help beginner students become comfortable with the basic steps and patterns, while encouraging them to keep dancing for the lifelong benefits of physical exercise and social enjoyment that it offers.

We hope to get some teenagers at this dance night, so please encourage kids 13 and over to join us! You can call it a 50’s dance instead of swing…that might help!

Since we are bringing the King’s up for the workshop, I’d like to get an idea of how many people will be there for the workshop.

New Latin-Carribean Restaurant downtown Parkersburg – New Years Eve Party

There is a new Latin-Carribean restaurant opening on Market St. in downtown Parkersburg.  The Mid-Ohio Valley International group is having their New Years party there.  Bruce Killen will be  DJing with Latin, Reggae, and American music. For those that want to attend, please make a reservation.  They plan on some serious dancing.  Bruce DJ’d their Halloween party and received some samba pointers from a lady actually from Brazil.  They are a really fun group.

Tempo Christmas Ballroom Dance Saturday December 12th! Guests Welcome!

This Saturday, December 12th, The Tempo Dance Club will hold its annual Christmas Dance. I am pleased to have the Vince Vilanova Orchestra provide the music for this dance. This orchestra performs frequently in the Pittsburgh/Wheeling area and is making a special trip to perform for us. You should expect a very special night of great dance music.

The dress is “black tie invited” which simply means the gentlemen are encouraged to wear a tuxedo, but may also wear a dark jacket and tie. Ladies are encouraged to wear long evening gowns or a cocktail dress as an alternative. As in years past, professional photographer Mel Samples will be taking our pictures. 

Non-members are invited to attend this dance at a cost of $35. You do not have to be invited by a member to attend. Come out and enjoy a festive night of music and dance to celebrate the Holidays.

Dance Night Friday Dec 4 – Salsa Night Dec 5 – Big Band Brunch Sunday Dec 6

This Friday is our Dance Night for December.  If you haven’t been to a Dance Night yet, here’s the scoop.  Once a month we have reserved St. Ambrose Hall in Little Hocking, Ohio for a ballroom dance practice night.  You don’t have to belong to either of the clubs to attend.  We charge $15/couple $7.50/person and $5/teenager to attend.  The money is given to St. Ambrose to pay for the use of the hall.  There is no live music, Peter Ianniciello puts together a play list with 2 songs back-to-back of the same dance:  2 foxtrots, 2 swing, etc.  That way you can remember the dance steps with the first song and practice with the second.  We have a dance workshop from 8-9, and the music starts to play at 9.

We hope to appeal to a wide variety of dancers in the area, but we’d especially like to see new dancers or rusty dancers out on the dance floor outside of a lesson.  Bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages and enjoy the evening with your dance partner and fellow dancers.  It’s a great date night!

SATURDAY NIGHT is Salsa Night at the Old Marina, across from Lowes in Vienna.  Music starts at 10pm, it’s Bruce’s Bday (the DJ) so it should be quite a celebration!

Also – This Sunday December 6th, there  is a BIG BAND BRUNCH from noon – 3

Dance Night Friday Nov 20th!

Now that you’re on a roll – don’t let your dancing shoes cool down.  Keep up the practice this Friday at St. Ambrose Hall.  Peter will have another great play list for us to dance to, and another workshop.  The ballroom dance workshop is from 8-9 and the continuous dance tunes will run from 9 to 11.  Bring your snacks for a fun night out – and a great chance to practice the moves you learned in dance class the last few weeks!    See you there!   – Nancy

Tempo Dance – Saturday November 14!

Tempo Dance Club Dance this weekend!  Guests Welcome – $35 per couple.   New members encouraged at a pro-rated rate of $128!

Tempo Members –  If we have two or more member couples each invite and bring a guest couple to the dance, the member couples will be entered into a drawing to win $40.  The guest will pay the $35 guest fee and will be able to join the club for the remaining four dances for an additional $128. If the visiting couple joins on Saturday night they will be given one free couple pass to a Friday “Dance Night” worth $15.

River Cities Ballroom Dance – Tonight! November 6, 2009

Tonight is the second dance in the 2009 series for River Cities. The evening is guaranteed to be filled with a lively crowd – bigger than ever! Bill is hosting his students tonight. His usual Friday night dance lessons will be a the Lafayette instead of the Betsy Mills. Same times: Session 1: 5:45 – 6:45 and Session 2 plus Workshop: 6:45 – 7:45. The live music will begin at 8 pm. For the regulars – please welcome the guests and I’m sure they’ll welcome any dance tips you may have. If you haven’t been to a formal dance yet – now is your chance! You won’t be the only beginner on the dance floor. It will be a great way to brush up on your dance moves and enjoy a night out!

Dance Night THIS Friday – October 30th!

The Next Dance Night will be October 30th. So – look for the perfect Halloween Dance outfit for that night. I LOVE Halloween, so be prepared to dance in your favorite vampire cape or Marti Gras Mask. Any dance that close to Halloween has to be a blast. If you are a HalloweenMark and Nancy fan and want to add to the decor, let me know – or just bring your decorations!
